Building a Custom Walnut Shiplap Fireplace
This is one of our favorite fireplaces we’ve ever built. Our clients wanted a shiplap fireplace with a twist. They showed us an inspiration photo of a walnut fireplace, and we were thrilled to take on this unique project. Walnut is one of our absolute favorite woods to work with—I’ve even used it in my own home.
From Rough Walnut to Finished Fireplace
We began with rough walnut and milled it to size. As you can see from the photos, the wood starts much larger and rougher than the final product. There is a significant amount of preparation that goes into these builds. Once the planks were ready, we rabbited the edges to create a traditional shiplap. The final product was clear coated with Kem Aqua clear coat, enhancing its natural beauty and durability.
Unique Design and Craftsmanship by Byrus Signature Touch
The fireplace insert is styled to be partially covered by the shiplap, so we built the frame accordingly. We love when clients give us the freedom to create unique designs that stand out.
